Balinese Shadow Puppet Theatre Inspires New Production at Performance Works

Gamelan Turtle Bliss is presenting an intercultural shadowplay with Balinese and Western elements at Granville Island’s Performance Works on July 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. Vancouver ​Community Gamelan has joined forces with the ​Vancouver Independent Music Centre Society to present the work composed by Michael O’Neill. The shadowplay, “Show on Earth: Wallace Line and Deep Time,” will feature a musical ensemble made up of gongs, tuned percussive instruments, violin, viola, and cello, performing with a dalang (puppeteer/narrator), and projections. Tickets: $20/$25/$30 ($15 for children 12 and under).
