The Vancouver Fringe Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with over 65 shows on Granville Island between Sept. 5 and 15. Fringe4All, serving as an opening night teaser, will kick off this year’s festival at Performance Works on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Hosted by Abdul Aziz and Shawn O’Hara, the evening will showcase artists performing two-minute excerpts from some of the upcoming shows. The 17 performance venues participating in the festival feature a wide range of environments, from full theatre spaces to non-traditional areas such as the outdoor parking lot on Johnston. Performances at the Granville Island Ferry Dock will take place on the water. The Fringe Bar, open at 5 p.m. on weekdays and 3 p.m. on weekends, features free entertainment, live bands, and food trucks. To attend the festival, a one-time $10 Fringe membership is required. Tickets and memberships can be purchased online or over the phone before the festival begins. During the Fringe, tickets are available at three box offices on Granville Island. Tickets are not sold at the performance venues.
