Rio Theatre Featuring Special Q&A Sessions with Filmmaker Kevin Smith and Stormy Daniels (Sept. 8 and 10)
The Rio Theatre is featuring two film screenings next week with special Q&A sessions. The East Broadway theatre hosts the Canadian premiere of Kevin Smith’s latest work, “The 4:30 Movie,” with the filmmaker in attendance on Sunday, Sept. 8. The doors open at 7 p.m., with the film starting at 8 p.m. After the screening, Smith will talk about the film and lead a Q&A session. “The 4:30 Movie” is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age comedy set in the summer of 1986 and has been described as a love letter to ’80s cinema. Two nights later, the Rio is screening “Stormy: The Documentary,” with Stormy Daniels in the house to participate in a Q&A segment after the film is shown. Filmmaker Sarah Gibson, an SFU graduate, and producer Erin Lee Carr explore the saga of Stormy Daniels versus Donald Trump in the documentary, which premiered earlier this year at SXSW. “This is life and death for Stormy,” Carr told the Hollywood Reporter. “Stormy gets daily death threats. And one of the best disinfectants is sunlight. We feel like it’s important to get this information out there as quickly as possible to show what the current stakes are …” The doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, with the film starting at 7 p.m.
