More than 60 apple varieties (including new addition, Summerland Sunset, a late-ripening red apple) will be featured at the UBC Botanical Garden Apple Festival on Oct. 19 and 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. First organized by Friends of the Garden in 1991, the two-day festival will offer up to 40,000 pounds of apples for purchase. Over 50 varieties of apple trees, including seven new additions, will also be available on dwarfing rootstock for those looking to grow their own. In addition to the sales areas, there will be food demos by UBC Food Services chefs David Speight and Darren Clay, a tasting tent, a children’s area, and live musical performances. Children, aged seven and below, get in free, although an admission ticket is still required. Apple Festival 2024, UBC Botanical Garden, 6804 SW Marine Dr, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z4.
