Art Historian Explores the Work of Baroque Feminist Icon at Ferry Building
Capilano University instructor Efrat El-Hanany will give a talk on the 17th-century Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi at West Vancouver’s Ferry Building on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. The art historian will detail the rise of women artists in the Renaissance and explore their relationship within the context of visual arts production. Simply put, Gentileschi seemingly defied all stereotypes in her work while operating in the highest spheres of society. She did her own thing, turning the tables on traditional perspectives in many of her paintings. Tickets cost $15. Register at 604-925-7270 or online.
