Monsters of the Abyss Exhibit Opens at Vancouver Aquarium (Feb. 16-19)
Just in time for the BC Family Day weekend, the Vancouver Aquarium has unveiled its latest exhibit, “Monsters of the Abyss.” The interactive show explores the formidable aquatic predators that have roamed the world’s oceans, rivers, and lakes, both in ancient times and the present. Visitors will delve into the mysteries of today’s marine “monsters” and their prehistoric predecessors. Running through the summer, the exhibit offers a blend of supersized sculptures, fossil discoveries, and various hands-on activities that bring the epic aquatic worlds to life. As a special promotion through Feb. 19, the aquarium is offering a complimentary child ticket with an adult admission purchase.

Richmond Museum Takes a Deep Dive into a Childhood Spent in Ditches (Feb. 19)
Richmond Museum dives into its cultural history this weekend with a full day devoted to all things concerning ditches. “Discovering Ditches: Richmond’s Playgrounds” looks back at what it was like to be a child in Richmond over much of the 20th century. Richmond still has 320 kilometres of ditches and canals coursing through the municipality, and many a childhood was spent jumping, swimming, and even ice skating on the roadside playgrounds. Artist Julie Papajohn memorialized this unique childhood in her exhibit, “Ditches,” at the Richmond Art Gallery last year. On BC Family Day, the Richmond Museum gets into the act with frog-themed crafts, games, and ditch-jumping skills, among other activities. The event is part of the “Richmond Kids” exhibit, which is open until August 26. Free admission.
