Motorcycle Teams Compete for Charity in Higgy’s 9 Hours Endurance Challenge (Aug. 18)
Vancouver Island’s Higgy’s On The Track is hosting the Higgy’s 9 Hours motorcycle endurance event on Sunday, Aug. 18, to raise money for charity. Riders will do laps from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit (4063 Cowichan Valley Hwy, Duncan, BC), raising money with each lap completed.
Inspired by Japan’s legendary Suzuka 8 Hours race, 14 teams with a wide range of ages and abilities will compete in the Higgy’s event. “We rely on track providers for a safe space to learn and recreate with people who share our passion, and with instructors and coaches who can help us to develop our skills,” says Glenn Hafey, a member of the Team 11 crew competing on Sunday. “I can’t tell you how important it is for riders of all types to be able to gain access to a circuit such as the VIMC – riders and drivers can learn and practice their improving skills, safe from animals, other drivers, and simple hazards like gravel on the road.”
“One of the coolest things about the nine-hour event is the huge variety of people and rider types in one event,” says Hafey. “Not only is it fun, it creates a ton of camaraderie. That‘s seen in the fundraising challenge – People will compete hard against each other to raise funds and cheer each other on.”
Donations to sponsor a team per lap can be made online. Money raised during Higgy’s 9 Hours will go to the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association, Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, and the B.C. Children’s Hospital. Follow the action at higgys.ca/enduro. The event is open to the public. Free admission.
