Guildford Town Centre is reviving memories of a local hangout with Skate Stardust on Sept. 12. The original Stardust Roller Rink opened in 1971 and was the place to be for generations of Surrey teens before finally closing in 2005. “From birthday parties to band nights, from all-night skates to roller hockey, Stardust played an important role in growing up in Surrey,” says Bonnie Burnside, a former employee of the original Stardust Roller Rink. A retro-themed 1,690 square-foot roller rink and lounge space has been set up in the mall with a graffiti wall, neon lights, and a DJ booth, which will remain in operation until closing time on Oct. 31. Open daily from 11 a.m. rink admission is free. Proceeds from $2 skate rental fees will benefit the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society.
