Stones Say Their Goodbyes as Vancouver Settles into Summer Mode
The Rolling Stones are now down in Southern California but when they were in Vancouver last weekend Mick Jagger paid a visit to Vikram Vij’s namesake restaurant on Cambie Street. The restaurateur posted on Instagram that he “had the incredible honor of hosting the legendary Mick Jagger at Vij’s last night! An unforgettable evening filled with great conversations, laughter, and, of course, amazing food.” The Stones frontman has long been fascinated with all aspects of Indian culture – when illustrator John Pasche was commissioned to design a logo for the band it was Jagger who suggested the red tongue of the Hindu goddess Kali as a visual reference. The Rolling Stones iconic tongue and lips logo was first used on the label of the Sticky Fingers album in 1971.
Some of the Stones’ Instagram channels also posted about their Vancouver stay: @officiakeef has a clip of Keith Richards performing “Before They Make Me Run” on the BC Place stage, while Ronnie Wood’s account shows the guitarist driving away from the gig in his limo like an image straight out of Nik Cohn and Guy Peellaert’s Rock Dreams. “We love Vancouver,” Wood says looking out his side window. “It was a great show. Nice to see them all rolling out of the concert. I think they had a good time tonight.”
