Chan Centre Showcases Indigenous Culture at UBC Festival (Sept. 14)
It’s a bit early, and we don’t actually have a vote, but we think Celeigh Cardinal’s stellar new album, Boundless Possibilities, should be in the running for the Polaris Prize for Best Canadian Album of 2025. Cardinal is performing at the free ʔəm̓i ce:p xʷiwəl Come Toward the Fire Festival at UBC’s Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on Sept. 14. As part of UBC’s homecoming event lineup, the Indigenous-led ʔəm̓i ce:p xʷiwəl (Come Toward the Fire) Festival will feature a full day of musical performances, film screenings, dance groups, storytelling, food vendors, and an artisan market at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts on Saturday, from noon to 7 p.m. The name for the festival “ʔəm̓i ce:p xʷiwəl,” is from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language and translates into the English phrase “come toward the fire.”
