Three Major Film Festivals Lighting Up Vancouver in September
“Festivals are crucial ecosystems for the visibility of movies and for the film industry as a whole.” – Isabelle Huppert, Jury President, Venice Film Festival 2024
September is a festival-packed month in Vancouver, especially for film lovers, with no less than three dedicated entirely to cinema. The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, currently on through Sept. 15, is featuring more than 90 films from 19 countries in 11 languages at various downtown locations. The VLAFF schedule includes a day of co-presentation screenings with the Vancouver Queer Film Festival on Sept. 14 at the Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas. The VQFF has been hosting its own slate of 2SLGBTQIA+ films since 1988. The 36th annual edition runs Sept. 11-22, with eight world premieres among the 97 films screening. The Vancouver International Film Festival, showcasing world cinema with screenings, live events, and industry workshops, kicks off Sept. 26 and goes to Oct. 6.
