World’s Best Women’s Rugby Teams Meeting in Local Tourney (Oct. 5, 6, 11 & 12)

Vancouver is hosting six of the world’s best women’s rugby teams in the second annual WXV 1 tournament. Nine matches featuring Canada, England, France, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United States Rugby 15s are being played over three consecutive weekends.

WXV 1 began last weekend with a triple-header at BC Place. England defeated the USA team 61-21, Canada beat France 46-24, and Ireland edged out New Zealand 29-27. Willoughby Stadium at Langley Events Centre is hosting the second weekend, with France playing the USA on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 12:30 p.m. followed by Canada taking on Ireland at 3:45 p.m. On Oct. 6, it’s England vs. New Zealand at 1 p.m.

The tournament moves back to BC Place for the final weekend, with Ireland playing the USA team on Oct. 11 at 12:30 p.m., followed by two games on Oct. 12 with New Zealand taking on France at 3:45 p.m. and Canada playing England at 7 p.m. The world rankings are so close that almost every game impacts team standings. The 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup will take place in England, Aug. 22 to Sept. 27, 2025, with 16 teams. Canada moved into second place in the rankings after its 46-24 win over No. 4 France at BC Place on Sept. 29.
