Image: Video Still courtesy artist and Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki / MOANew Zealand Māori (Ngā Puhi) artist Lisa Reihana is in residence at UBC’s Green College for two weeks this month and will lead a salon discussion titled In Pursuit of New Narratives on Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. The talk will explore Pacific Indigenous relationships with cultural identity and colonization. Reihana’s 26-metre wide, 32-minute, floor-to-ceiling video installation, In Pursuit of Venus [infected], is currently on display at UBC’s Museum of Anthropology through Jan. 5, 2025. The work features a series of 80 theatrical vignettes performed by representatives of various Pacific cultures. UBC professors Coll Thrush (History) and Alice Te Punga Somerville (English Languages and Literature) will join Reihana for the discussion, followed by a reception (Coach House, Green College, 6201 Cecil Green Park Road , Vancouver).
