Early Music Vancouver explores the music of J.S. Bach this summer in Bach Untamed, running from July 30 to August 8 at various Vancouver venues. Close to 50 early music artists will be featured in concerts that revisit the classic material with new perspectives and arrangements as well as input from other world music traditions. Some of the upcoming highlights include a performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, the Canadian debut of multi-instrumentalist Alon Sariel, and an afternoon concert spotlighting the next generation of emerging artists. Most performances take place at Christ Church Cathedral or the Vancouver Playhouse with one major exception: the Fox Cabaret will feature a night of risqué 17th century drinking songs in “Banned from the Concert Hall: A Comedy Night” on Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. For more information and tickets to Bach Untamed events, visit earlymusic.bc.ca.
