With over 40 music acts from 15 countries set to play at this year’s folk fest, the scope of what’s in store is breathtaking. Workshops and concerts take place on three stages all day Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. after things kick off late afternoon on Friday. Main Stage evening concerts start at 6 p.m. with music continuing until 11 p.m. each night of the festival. Saturday night will be extended to accommodate the Celebration of Light fireworks display in English Bay. Irish singer/songwriter James Vincent McMorrow will perform right up until Portugal’s Team Macedos Pirotecnia launches their pyro show at 10 p.m. After the fireworks end at 10:30 p.m., Tuareg desert rockers Etran de L’Aïr close out the night with a set featuring tunes from their new album, 100% Sahara Guitar. Maybe the best Sahel sounds to hit these shores since Timbuktu desert bluesman Ali Farka Touré graced the ʔəy̓alməxʷ Jericho Beach Park stage many years ago. Tickets are available as full weekend passes, family packs, and evening tickets. Children under 12, accompanied by an adult, get in free.
