Ranya Jamal will be the featured vocalist at North Vancouver’s Centennial Theatre on Friday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. as part of the Music Without Borders concert, “Hanim | Arab Women in Music.” The evening will pay tribute to music first performed by iconic divas, such as Umm Kulthum, Asmahan, Fairouz, Sabah, Shadia, Warda, and Mayada El Hennawy. The North Shore is no stranger to hosting world-class vocalists devoted to classical repertoires. Persian classical singer Parissa has performed at both Centennial Theatre and the Kay Meek Arts Centre over the years, including a show in 2012 where she spent over a week in North Vancouver rehearsing at the Nava Arts Centre to prepare for a North American tour. Friday night’s concert, under the music direction of Gaby Al Botros, promises to be something special.
