West Coast Modern Week returns with its annual appreciation of West Coast Modernism and its historical ties to West Vancouver. Several of the events this year focus on the legacy of architect Arthur Erickson during his centenary, including exhibitions, panel discussions, and a film screening. Isetta Cafe Bistro hosts West Coast Modern Week’s opening night launch, which is doubling as a celebration of the West Vancouver Art Museum’s 30th anniversary, July 9, 6-8 p.m. Architect/historian Alan Hess is the guest speaker for the Barry Downs Lecture Series with a talk entitled, “From City to City Up the Coast” tracking West Coast Modernisms reach from San Diego to Vancouver (Kay Meek Arts Centre, July 11, 7 p.m.). Two exhibitions on the work of Arthur Erickson are also running concurrently with West Coast Modern Week. The West Vancouver Art Museum is presenting A Refuge: Arthur Erickson (until July 20), and the West Vancouver Memorial Library is hosting Inward/Outward (until Aug. 11), showcasing photography by John Fulker and Selwyn Pullan that focuses on homes designed by Erickson.
